ONLINE-ONLY AUCTION INFORMATION

How to Register to Bid:
   1. On Stouffer's Auction home page, scroll to whichever auction you are interested in. In the "Information" section for that auction, click where it says "Click here to view auction and register to bid!" You will then be directed to a new Web page.
   2. At the top of the page, click on the link that says "Login/New Bidder". A new pop-up window will appear. At the bottom-right of this pop-up window is a button that says "Click Here If You Are a New Bidder". After clicking this button, a new page will appear asking for your information.
   3. Fill out the fields with your name, address, phone, etc. as requested and choose a User Name and password. You can then choose to hide your user name from other bidders. If this option is checked, when bidders look to see the bids on a particular item, your user name will only appear as random characters. You can also choose whether you want to receive an e-mail every time you place a bid and/or whenever you are outbid on an item. Click "Create New Account".
*Please note, steps 1-3 only create your account, they do not register you for a specific auction. Please follow the steps below to register for a specific auction and provide credit card info.*
   4. You will then be re-directed to the auction page and your name should be displayed in the top-right of your screen. If you mouse-over your name, a drop-down box will appear. Click on "Payment Methods". Fill out the credit card information in the pop-up box that appears. Once submitted, you will receive notification that "your payment method has been successfully received." Click "OK".
   5. You may now place your bids!

ONLINE AUCTIONS
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Can I view the items before I buy?
For almost all of our auctions, we provide a preview date and time for interested buyers to come and inspect the items for themselves. This information is posted on our home page as well as in the terms & conditions and auction information pages.

How do I bid?
You first need to register to bid (see top of page). After having registered, simply scroll to the lot you would like to bid on and click the bid button to the right. A pop-up window will appear which will allow you to specify your "Max Bid".

What is a Max Bid?
The Max Bid feature allows you to input the total amount of money you are willing to spend on a specific item. Our online bidding platform system will then update the lot's price by one increment at a time until the price reaches your maximum. For example, if you are bidding on an item that is currently $5 and you are willing to pay up to $30 for it, you simply need to type in $30 into the max bid section and the system will update the item's bid price to $6. If someone else attempts to bid $7 on the item, the system will bump it to $8 with you as the higher bidder. This will continue until the bid price exceeds your max bid (in which case you would receive an outbid notification).

Why do I keep getting outbid immediately?
If another bidder has input a higher Max Bid than the bid you entered (see above section on Max Bids), the system will update the bid to the next increment higher than your bid. You may continue to input bids; it's entirely possible that you might exceed their Max Bid, in which case, you will hold the new high bid.

What are bid increments?
The bid increments are auction specific. In most cases, bidding starts off with $1 increments which means you must bid at least a dollar higher than the current bid. Once an item reaches a certain price (usually about $100), the bidding increment is upped to $5 which means you must place a bid that is $5 higher than the current bid. Please read each auction's terms & conditions and auction details before bidding!

Can I reduce my bid?
Possibly. If you placed a bid that you wish to reduce (for example, if you wanted to put $45.00 and accidentally put $4500.00 and clicked to confirm the bid), please call our office at 301-791-6896 and our office staff will be more than willing to assist you to reduce your bid to the current amount. However, as stated in each auctions' terms & conditions, you MUST contact our office before that item completely closes or we may not be able to reduce the bid.

Can I watch only specific items instead of the entire auction?
Absolutely. If you scroll to the item that you want to watch, to the right of that item you should see a button that says "Watch Lot". After clicking this button, scroll to the top of the page and mouse over your name (you must be logged in). Click on "Watch List" in the drop-down box that appears. You will be redirected to your watch list where you can view the specific lots that you are watching as well as those on which you have already bid.

How can I search for a specific lot?
When you are on the auction catalogue page, just below the main picture and above the first lot's picture, there is a box that says "Search by lot number or description". Simply type any keyword / lot number into that box and either hit "Enter" on your keyboard or click "Refresh List" on the webpage. The page will then be updated based on what you typed.

How do I add or delete lots from my Watch List?
When you go into your watch list, you should see a green "+" button and a red "x" button. Clicking the green button will allow you to update your bid. Clicking the red button deletes the item from your watch list.

How do I know what an item is worth?
Valuation is by its nature subjective. We do our best to supply independent and verified information about the lot when available, including any wear or damages that the lots contain. Buyers may also attend the preview to inspect lots.

I have a question about an auction lot. What do I do?
You may call 301-791-6896, e-mail denny@stouffersauctionco.com, or e-mail sue@stouffersauctionco.com. Our office staff will do their best to answer any questions that you have.

Why did this Live Catalog appear and what is it?
The live catalog appears whenever the auction is approximately 30 minutes from closing. The live catalog is a more convenient way for bidders to see what is currently closing as well as any updates such as new bids, outbid notifications, and updated closing times. If you would like to view the normal catalog, simply click "View Catalog" at the top-right of the screen.

The lot that I bid on says "May Have Won". Did I win?
The "May Have Won" notice at the close of each item means that there could be a larger "pending bid" that needs approval by the auctioneer. So if you see based on your last bid amount that you may have won you could be outbid by a pending bid not yet approved.

Immediately after the auction, our office staff begin constructing and sending out e-mails with your invoice attached as well as the pick-up date, time, and location. If you do not receive this e-mail, please check your spam, junk, and trash folders as it may have ended up there. If you still do not receive an e-mail, you may call 301-791-6896 to confirm whether or not you won your lots.

How do I see lots I did and didn't win?
For professional reasons, we do not display the winning bids on items that have already closed. You may visit your Watch List to view which items you won and which ones you were outbid on.

What are the shipping policies?
For most of our auctions, we do not provide shipping. For small-item auctions such as coins, firearms, or models, shipping may be provided. Please read the terms & conditions and the auction details for each auction to see. If you have any questions or concerns, you may call our office at 301-791-6896.

Why did the auction end after its original close time?
Our online auctions are designed to mimic traditional "live" auctions. For this reason, our online-only auctions have a staggered, dynamic closing. This means that instead of all lots closing at the same time, one lot closes every 10 seconds. Being a dynamic closing system means that if a bid is placed on an item while it's closing, the closing time is increased by 2 minutes to allow for more bids.

How do I pay for the items that I won?
The credit card that was input when you registered is charged immediately after the complete close of the auction. It is your responsibility to make sure that the credit card has sufficient funds for the items that you purchase.

If you have updated the credit card that was originally used when you registered after the start of the auction, we cannot see - for security reasons - the second card. Please call or e-mail the office with that information, so the card on file is not declined.
